This beginner-friendly tutorial on how to download and install Minecraft Data Packs will have you customizing your Minecraft world in just a few mouse clicks!

What are Minecraft Data Packs?

Minecraft Data Packs add custom functions, advancements, recipes, loot tables, and/or structures! Some data packs add the smallest of features while others add bigger and more advanced elements. For example; the Mob Health Bar data pack adds a health bar that displays health bars for each mob that is near you. The More Totems data pack adds 15 new totems with different effects! There are data packs that add new dimensions to Minecraft, different food items, and there are even packs that exist that add flame throwers, jetpacks and more!

If you navigate to the Data Packs section of Planet Minecraft, you can sort by these categories as well as specific topics such as Magic, Farming and Tools, Technology, and more! There are over 4,000 Data Packs on Planet Minecraft!

For this tutorial, we're using PMC Lucky Blocks! This data pack was created by 13 PMC Members and is the result of a collaborative event with Bertiecrafter. The pack and adds "lucky blocks" - if a lucky block gets broken, a random effect or item is picked from the 221 different options available. Watch out, there may be a creeper in one of them!
