Hello, and welcome to my interview with minzy! ♥ She is a lovely skin creator known for her celebrity and fashion-themed creations and her distinctive shading style. x I hope you enjoy our interview!
My questions are in pink; her replies are in light pink.
1. What inspired you to start making Minecraft skins?
1. I think it was mainly not being able to find skins of certain characters or outfits that I wanted. I used to occasionally tweak other people’s skins to better match what I had in mind, but even that never really satisfied me. I think I made my first full skin sometime during 2018. I’ve tried remaking it numerous times, but it’s such an ugly design, I can’t bring myself to do it.
2. How did you discover PMC? What is one of your favourite memories of the site?
2. I discovered PMC when I was quite young. It would’ve been around 2013, however, I never made myself an account. To me, it was just one of the better sites to browse and download skins for myself that seemed a little more unique.
My favourite memory on PMC would have to be Noodle and I talking over PMC dms for months because I didn’t have discord (I only had the vaguest idea of what discord even was). She even told me I should get it and for whatever reason I just never did. It was such a joke. PMC dm is literally the equivalent to writing a letter or an email because of how slow it is and how long it takes for either person to respond.
3. Do you have a persona? If so, what inspired you to create them?
3. I do, but I don’t always use her for everything or refer to her as my persona in every iteration. I feel as though I kind of have a few skins that share similar characteristics which I either relate to or am inspired by. Whether they are the same OC or my persona isn’t always clear to me. My main one is Crystal, who was inspired by my love of pop and R&B from the early 2000s. She’s kind of meant to have a pop star appearance but also sort of resemble me in rl. She’s a bit outdated right now, but I do have a newer version I intend to release soon! The other one is more like an oc which is my Gyaru/Spring Break skins. I had no intention of making them so similar, but they really do look like the same character! They were inspired by Gyaru and Ganguro Japanese fashion and some random images of Bratz. Even though they’re not my persona, these days they might as well be tbh.
4. Do you have a favourite submission that you've made? Your favourite that someone else has made?
4. My favourite submission that I’ve made would probably be No Angel/Late Valentine. I really enjoyed making that one after my time off in December and January. It was nice to get back into it and that skin was fairly well received, so it was very motivating for me. Up until that point, I didn’t have very many everyday-wear skins. It was kind of nice to do something a little more casual, but still very me.
As for submissions that other users have made, that’s a tough one. There’s a lot. Marie Antoinette by Krease is a longterm favourite of mine. More recently, Moon’s Zero Two: Bunny Ver. I’m not familiar with the anime the character is from, but the proportions on that skin are really lovely. The vibrant colours and blocky shading work amazingly for that outfit. Plus, the outfit itself is really cute.
5. Who would you say has influenced or inspired you the most on PMC?
5. ICY, canday, Aesthetic and Krease. They’re all pretty different from each other, but these were some of the users who I used to enjoy looking at when I first joined PMC and I still frequent their pages.
6. If you could add one feature to PMC, what would it be? Would you remove any preexisting features, and if so, which one(s)?
6. Idk if it bothers anyone else, but I find the light mode background insanely ugly. I wish we could change it to a block colour or something instead of the dirt block default. I don’t use light mode these days, but the option would be nice. It’s not something I’m super desperate for though. I’m sure there are a lot of better and more important updates that this site needs far sooner.
7. What would you consider your greatest accomplishment here on PMC? In real life?
7. It’s kind of minuscule, but reaching 100 subs here was cool. When I came back to PMC in December 2020, I only had around 15 subscribers and I don’t think any were active anymore, so I really appreciated making it to 100. In real life, probably just something as basic as graduating high school with a decent final exam score and being accepted into my preferred degree at university. I think the feeling of doing well in school or any external education is so satisfying, especially after you put in so much work.
8. What advice would you give to a new PMC member?
8. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun with what you post. On another note, don’t expect to love everything you make either. It just takes time to figure out what works for you. You can always laugh at your old posts down the track anyway and compare your old work to your new submissions.
9. What is one cause that you especially believe in? Would you like to say anything about it to the community?
9. I’d say the impact fast fashion business models have on the natural environment is something I’m pretty passionate about. I’m aware that not everyone is in a position to spend a ton on designer goods, and they don’t need to. I think just taking some time to read about microplastic fibres should be enough to make people think twice before spending money on apparel that will likely need to be disposed of within a year. It’s not just about environmental damage, but also the effects it has on the food chain and our health. Since so much factory waste ends up in waterways, seafood and drinking water inevitably becomes contaminated. I'm unsure if you've seen it, but this year microplastics have been detected in human blood for the first time. If that's not concerning idk what is. I could talk about this for hours, but if you feel like it, definitely read up on sustainable fibres in fashion and buy quality over quantity when shopping. You can also always look out for garments made with plant fibres or recycled materials. I don’t think they’ll ever replace polyester and cotton, and I don’t think people should only purchase textiles made from these materials. It’s just good to be conscious of the products you’re buying and to know what certain businesses stand for.
10. Do you have a current goal for your content?
10. I’ve had a few skins sitting in a folder on my desktop for a few months which are all about 70%-90% finished. I often get distracted when making a skin and start on something new without finishing the old submission first. My current goal is to finish and release those before I start any more new work.
11. How would you describe yourself in three words?
11. Energetic, fashionable and hardworking.
