Once upon a time, there was a young man named Aaron Shadowbrook. He was tall and handsome, with a good tan and startling blue eyes. Everyone liked him and liked talking to him. They were all Elementals, magic users with ties to specific elements and parts of magic, and he was no exception. He was tied to Fire and Shadow magic and used them whenever he could. He had a loving family and lived with them despite being old enough to move out whenever he wanted. One day he was out trying to recapture a chicken that had escaped from their coop. The chicken, named Summer, was always getting away and finding new ways to escape. He had captured her and was on his way back to the village, when it happened. The demon attacked. Faris was the Demon of Chaos, and true to his title he destroyed the village. There were no survivors. His friends, his parents, his brothers and sisters, his grandparents, even his Fiancé- all gone. In fact, Faris almost got Aaron too. Just in time, however, Faris was distracted by the creature he was looking for. A glint of light nearby seemed to have caught his eye. He grabbed it and disappeared into the night.
Aaron was devastated, and rightly so. Everything he once knew was now gone. He couldn't go to a human settlement, because they tended to distrust his kind and would likely kill him. He just walked along and tried not to think about what had happened. He happened to stumble upon a kindly old witch who helped him with his magic studies, only asking for his help in bottling her potions and cleaning up every now and then.
At the end of two years, Aaron grew restless. He wanted to hunt down Faris and make him pay but had no means to disguise himself among the humans he needed to visit if he wanted to make his dream a reality. He asked the witch for help, and she gave him an artifact she had kept for many years. It was a piece of fabric. He placed his hand upon it, and it changed into a long, elegant wizard's robe. It was black with red highlighting and came with a hood that concealed his face. When he put it on, the ancient magic on it put shadows over his face making it, (And all the markings of his racial status), unseeable.
So he made his way to the castle, and in doing so put himself up to a great threat. But soon, with luck and skill, he would rouse the armies of the empire and get them to help him kill the demon!
Later, after the events at the castle, Aaron found a large blue sapphire haunting his dreams. Without really knowing how, he found himself with the knowledge of where it was. He used this information to locate a dungeon in the basement of a woodland mansion.
