Equip a sword in your off-hand (left) to display it on your back. Note: because the position of the sword is tied to the position of your off-hand, there is some unavoidable movement and clipping. It's also compatible with any resource pack as this contains no actual sword textures. It doesn't require Optifine or anything.
I like the aesthetic of being able to sheath a sword (either at the hip or on back). I found Manuel XXVI's Sheathed Swords resource pack which dictates that a sword held in the off-hand would be sheathed at the hip. Manuel XXVI's resource pack inspired me to modify some of the code so that the sword is instead sheathed on the back of the player character.
I received permission from Manuel XXVI to post the modified version of the Sheathable Swords resource pack.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, then my response would be no.
The position of the sheathed sword model is relative to the position of the hand the sword is equipped in; the hand acts as an anchor point of sorts (0,0,0) and is "how/why" the sword model appears in the world outside of the inventory (figuring out how to "sheath" a sword while it was un-equipped and just in the inventory was way beyond my skills and probably beyond a simple resource pack, bordering on data pack or mod territory instead). The sword will always be XYZ units from the hand (as dictated by the coordinates in the .json file).
Because the hand shifts while the character model is idle, so does the sword model, but it's rather slight in my opinion.
Where clipping is most prominent in my resource pack is when your player character is walking/running/shifting; their hand swings and at the farthest point of the arc, the bottom of the sword model clips into the character's back. On Manuel XXVI original version of the Sheathed Swords pack, there is no clipping because of the manner in which the sword is "sheathed".
I hope that helped.
